How to get to Helsinki?

  • By air you most likely arrive at the Helsinki airport (HEL). Some airlines only fly to Tampere which is located about 200 km to the west of Helsinki. From Tampere there is a frequent train connection to Helsinki.
  • By train the only connection from abroad is from St. Petersburg.
  • By sea Helsinki can be reached by taking a ferry from Sweden, Estonia, Poland or Germany.

How to get to the workshop venue from the airport?

  • For public transport, see the excellent Journey Planner. The journey time for bus 615 is about 35 minutes from the airport to the Main Railway Station, from where it is about 2 km to the Marina Congress Center (address: Katajanokanlaituri 6). Single fare from the airport is 4.00 EUR, and the ticket is valid for one hour in all Helsinki metropolitan traffic, so you can use the same ticket e.g. on the tram number 4 if you do not feel like walking to the hotel from the railway station (the distance is about 2 km).
  • The Finnair bus is 5.90 EUR, journey time 35 min., leaves every 20 minutes and goes to the Main Railway Station like bus 615.
  • A taxi to Marina from the airport should be about 40 EUR (depends on the time of day and the number of passengers), the distance is about 20 km, and the travel time around half an hour. All taxis have a meter and charge the same rate, and they accept major credit cards.
  • The airport taxi shuttle has a flat rate of 25 EUR/person, has no fixed schedule but leaves when the minivan has enough passengers (rate is less per person if you are a group of 3 or more).
  • The are five rental car agencies at the airport.
